History and members

In 1998 the association was founded by several manufacturers of the fire extinguishing equipment industry in Hagen and officially recognized by the RAL German Institute for Quality Assurance and Labeling. The institution certifies training courses and maintenance instructions for its members and awards the “RAL Quality Mark 974” seal of approval for manually operated devices for fire fighting and maintenance guidelines and specialist courses. In 2000 the company moved from Hagen to Würzburg . In 2011, the requirements for the maintenance guidelines and specialist courses of the RAL-Gütegemeinschaft GRIF eV were adapted to the existing variety of hand-operated devices for fire fighting. Its members include leading manufacturers of fire extinguishing equipment and extinguishing water technology. In September 2013 these were BAVARIA Brandschutz Industrie GmbH & Co.KG, COSMOS Feuerlöschgerätebau GmbH, Döka Feuerlöschgerätebau GmbH, Feuerlöschgeräte Neuruppin Vertriebs-GmbH, Gloria GmbH , Interbrandschutz GmbH, Minimax Mobile Services GmbH & Co. KG , the TOTAL Feuerschutz GmbH and Hermann Weber GmbH extinguishers.

GRIF quality assurance

The objective is to ensure the quality of the maintenance guidelines and the specialist courses for hand-operated fire-fighting equipment based on them. This is confirmed by the quality mark. In addition, the society obliges its members to label only products that meet these requirements within the framework of the quality mark statutes. Compliance with these guidelines is monitored by the community.

  • Quality-assured training courses are offered for the maintenance services, for example for fire extinguisher inspectors, for the maintenance of extinguishing water technology or other hand-operated devices, taking into account the latest technology. The quality of the training is regularly monitored and assessed and the trainers are trained in advanced training events.
  • The quality-assured maintenance instructions are created individually for each fire extinguisher offered. The RAL-Gütegemeinschaft GRIF eV also defines the minimum content and quality requirements for the maintenance instructions in detail.

The association has the following quality committees:

Quality committee fire extinguishers

  • Defines the requirements for repeat courses and organizes an exchange of experiences and advanced training events for the trainers.
