abbreviation RAS-L
number 296
scope of application Lines
Previous edition 1970/1984

The guidelines for the construction of roads - part: line routing ( RAS-L for short ) were a technical set of rules valid in Germany , which was replaced in 2012 by the guidelines for the construction of country roads ( RAL for short ). The RAS-L were published by the Federal Ministry of Transport in November 1995 . This replaced the RAS-L-1 (elements of line routing) and RAL-L-2 (spatial routing) from 1984 and 1970, which were valid up to this point in time. The RAS-L was published by the Research Association for Roads and Transport in Cologne.

In the set of rules, the alignment (i.e. the course of the street in the site plan , related to the axis ) and the gradient (in the height plan , also called longitudinal section) were treated. In addition, design elements of the cross-section (see also RAS-Q ) for the construction of motorways and country roads, i.e. roads outside and inside built-up areas without cultivation, corresponding to the classification of roads in road categories AI to A VI and BI and B II according to RAS -N defined.

content

The set of rules consists of nine sections and ten appendices. Section one serves as an introduction to the guideline. The planning process and design stages are explained in section two. The decisive speeds, i.e. the design speed v e and speed v 85 (see also speed (traffic planning) ) are defined in the third section. Sections four and five define the design elements in terms of position and height. The result, i.e. the spatial alignment, is described in section six. Sections seven and eight regulate the design elements in cross-section and view. Section nine is a summary of the previous sections.

application

With the introduction of the RAS-L, the area of application was defined on roads without cultivation (both country roads and motorways). The RAS-L has been limited in its validity since June 2008 and is still applicable for country roads. For motorways, the guidelines for the construction of motorways (RAA for short) were introduced at this time . In 2012, the RAS-L was replaced by the guidelines for the construction of rural roads (RAL for short) in order to incorporate new knowledge and developments into the set of rules.

The RAS-L was not valid for built-on or cultivable roads (so-called city streets). For city streets, the guidelines for the construction of city streets (RASt for short) were published in June 2007 as the successor to the recommendations for the construction of main roads (EAHV for short) and access roads (EAE for short). The RASt applies to the new road categories VS, HS and ES of the guidelines for integrated network design (RIN for short), which roughly correspond to the previous RAS-N categories C, D and E.
