history

Beginnings 2008

After the Rugby Union World Cup in 2007, a group of rugby enthusiasts decided to found a club in Klagenfurt. For play and training purposes she joined the then Carinthian Club Matadors Paternion in 2008 and set up a Klagenfurt training branch. At the same time, the Bulldogs Arnoldstein were founded. It was planned to stimulate the Carinthian rugby sport nationwide with three 7s clubs. Together they should take part in the 2nd Austrian XV league in 2008/09 as the “ Carinthia game community ”.

Seasons 2008/09 & 2009/10

The XV project failed after two major defeats in October 2008 due to u. a. from a lack of players quickly - the focus was on a common 7s rugby team. Smaller successes of respect added up to rank 7 of the ÖM 2008/09 (today's Challenge Cup was merged with the ÖM this season). In the 2009/10 season the game was largely suspended. Bulldoggs & Matadors disbanded in March 2010, and the Tigers then moved into the SV Donau Klagenfurt -St.Ruprecht football club . The first coach, Matt McCreadie, almost had to train a whole new generation of players.

2010/11 season

The lead time to the start of the 7s season 2010/11 (which was again called Challenge Cup) turned out to be too short, which is why the Tigers accepted a syndicate offer from Stade Viennois (now Stade Rugby). Together with the internally dominating Viennese, there were good results in autumn 2010: 2nd place in Klagenfurt, tournament victory in Leoben . In spring 2011, the club was able to sign two well-trained players by Austrian standards: the Erasmus students Diego Fretz (CHI) and Florian Delille (FRA) and became competitive on their own. The syndicate broke up, at the 7s-CC tournament in Wiener Neustadt the Klagenfurt team surprised with 2nd place. Without Delille and Fretz, it was 8th and last place at the 7s-state championship shortly afterwards.

2011/12 season

In the 7s-CC season 2011/12 the Tigers started with 3rd place in Klagenfurt, with 2nd place in Krems / Donau they took the championship lead. They were able to defend this until the season finale with further good results and again second place in Leoben. Thus, the RC Tigers won the ÖRV Challenge Cup, a rather non-binding, albeit official ÖRV competition. At the ÖM in Wr. Neustadt were the Tigers set as a group head, but with 3 wins and 3 defeats did not get beyond the mediocre 6th place. In 2011/12, the club played numerous XV friendship games with changing partners ( RK Maribor , ARC Leoben , RC Graz), and in March 2012 for the first time with their own XV.

2012/13 season

In the 2012/13 season, the Tigers took part in the ÖRV-XV game operation for the first time. In the newly founded Regionalliga Süd, with the participants Graz B, Leoben and the Tigers, there were two wins and two defeats in four games, which was ultimately reflected in second place. In the 7s season, the team managed to defend their title by intercepting the Celtics Vienna from the front in a direct duel on the last matchday in Krems (19: 5). After the Vienna Celtics sent a very well-staffed team on all match days, this new CC victory was considered a surprise. At the ÖM in Klagenfurt there was the Celtics revenge in the semifinals (0:24), the Tigers were ultimately 4.

2013/14 season

The 2013/14 season was the most successful season in the club's history to date. In the 7s Challenge Cup, the Klagenfurters could not defend the title, they were clearly defeated in the all-important final game of the season of the RU Donau Wien and finished 2. At the 7s state championship, the Tigers landed on rank 3 and thus on the podium for the first time Competition, which is considered the greatest success in the club's history in view of the high-class cast. In XV rugby, the league shrank to two clubs because the 2nd team from Graz withdrew their nomination. The four games against the only remaining opponent Leoben were all won. The club announced to make use of the promotion right to the national league (2nd Bundesliga).

2014/15 season

The newcomer decided to want to concentrate primarily on XV rugby, and a build-up team was sent to the Challenge Cup. In the run-up to the season, the ÖRV outsourced the league game operations to the newly founded Alpine Rugby Championship - the restructuring took into account the fact that clubs from a total of 5 national associations (Austria, Slovenia, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Slovakia) in three performance levels (ARC 1, ARC 2 & 2 regional leagues). In addition, the ARC also runs the 7s Challenge Cup. The Tigers were able to win one game in the current season (in Maribor, criminally verified with 30: 0), but lost significantly against Wr. Neustadt (3:28), Graz (3:98), Zagreb (12:58), Danube Vienna II (7:49) & Linz (7:35). Right before the winter break, you are in 6th place out of 7 participating clubs.

Ladies rugby

In the spring of 2014, the women's section was founded, which in the current season forms a game and training community together with the newly founded Italian club Alp Rugby Tarvisio. The women's team is participating in the league in the current 7s season in Italy.
