RDSON

RDSON is a "colloquial" term among electronics engineers for the switch-on resistance or a minimum volume resistance of a field effect transistor . The correct spelling is R DS (on) , where R stands for electrical resistance . The index DS stands for the connection lines of the field effect transistor, which are referred to as drain (D) and source (S). The ON (English for "on") stands for the switched-on state of the field effect transistor in switching mode.

Nature and use

When fully connected, the field effect transistor has a low resistance; values ​​below 1 have now been  achieved. Put simply, the R DS (on) can be used to deduce the minimum achievable switching losses of the transistor. The R DS (on) is therefore also explicitly specified as a parameter in data sheets and catalogs.

For the design of electronic circuits such as voltage converters , switched-mode power supplies , converters and inverters , this is one of the important parameters that decisively determines the efficiency of the circuit, along with the selected frequency.
