CAM Timișoara was a Romanian football club from Timișoara , Timiș County . He played for two years in the top Romanian league, Divizia A , and reached the Romanian cup final in 1938.

history

CAM Timișoara was founded in 1911 under the name Reuniunea de gimnastică a muncitorilor din Timișoara (German gymnastics association of workers from Timișoara , abbreviated RGMT ). When the city of Timișoara came to Romania through the Trianon Peace Treaty , RGMT took part in the qualification for the Romanian football championship, but could not prevail in the Timișoara region until 1930 against the competition from Chinezul , the leading Romanian club of the 1920s .

When the professional league Divizia A was founded in 1932 , RGMT was one of the founding members, but was relegated again in the first year . Since Divizia B did not yet exist, the club was only able to participate in national gaming operations as a founding member in 1934.

In 1936, RGMT merged with local rivals CA Timișoara and changed its club name to Clubul Atletic Muncitoresc din Timișoara (German workers' sports club from Timișoara , abbreviated CAMT ). Two years later the club was able to achieve the greatest success in its history by reaching the cup final in 1938 . A year later, CAMT rose again to Divizia A, but the club had to relegate at the end of the 1939/40 season because it was supported by the unions.

After the end of World War II , CAMT joined forces with local rivals Chinezul Timișoara and entered the 1946/47 season initially under the name Chinezul-CAM Timișoara , but changed it back to CAM Timișoara in 1946 . After relegation from Divizia B in 1949, the club disbanded.
