List of communities in the Ravensburg district
The list of municipalities in the Ravensburg district gives an overview of the 39 smallest administrative units in the district . Eight of the municipalities are cities . Ravensburg , Wangen im Allgäu , Weingarten and Leutkirch im Allgäu have the title of large district town and are medium-sized towns , the other four, Bad Waldsee , Isny im Allgäu , Bad Wurzach and Aulendorf , are small towns .
In its present form, the district of Ravensburg was created in the course of the district reform carried out in 1973 . The district emerged from the former districts of Ravensburg and Wangen , 14 communities in the Saulgau district , two communities in the Biberach district and one municipality each, which until 1969 belonged to the Sigmaringen district and the Überlingen district respectively .

The district can be further divided into the following agreed administrative communities (VVG) and municipal administration associations (GVB):
- GVB Altshausen with the communities Altshausen , Boms , Ebenweiler , Ebersbach-Musbach , Eichstegen , Fleischwangen , Guggenhausen , Hoßkirch , Königseggwald , Riedhausen and Unterwaldhausen ;
- VVG Bad Waldsee with the city of Bad Waldsee and the municipality of Bergatreute ;
- GVB Gullen with the communities Grünkraut , Bodnegg , Schlier and Waldburg ;
- VVG Leutkirch im Allgäu with the city of Leutkirch im Allgäu and the communities of Aichstetten and Aitrach ;
- GVB Mittleres Schussental with the cities of Ravensburg and Weingarten and the communities of Baienfurt , Baindt and Berg ;
- VVG Vogt with the communities Vogt and Wolfegg ;
- VVG Wangen im Allgäu with the city of Wangen im Allgäu and the communities of Achberg and Amtzell ;
- VVG Wilhelmsdorf with the communities Wilhelmsdorf and Horgenzell ;
- GVB Fronreute-Wolpertswende with the communities Wolpertswende and Fronreute ;
The cities of Aulendorf , Bad Wurzach and Isny im Allgäu , like the municipalities of Argenbühl and Kißlegg, are not members of an administrative community or a municipal administration association.
The district has a total area of 1631.81 km² . The city of Bad Wurzach has the largest area within the district with 182.26 km². This is followed by the cities of Leutkirch im Allgäu with 174.95 km², Bad Waldsee with 108.54 km² and Wangen im Allgäu with 101.28 km². Six municipalities have an area between 50 and 100 km², including the cities of Ravensburg , Isny im Allgäu and Aulendorf . One municipality has an area of over 40 km², six municipalities have an area of over 30 km², nine municipalities are over 20 km², seven municipalities are over 10 km², including the city of Weingarten and six municipalities are smaller than 10 km². The smallest areas have the municipalities of Königseggwald with 6.85 km², Fleischwangen with 5.8 km² and Unterwaldhausen with 4.11 km².
The major district towns of Ravensburg with 50,623 inhabitants, Wangen im Allgäu with 26,905 inhabitants, Weingarten with 24,943 inhabitants and Leutkirch im Allgäu with 22,803 inhabitants have the largest share of the district's population of 284,285 inhabitants. The cities of Bad Waldsee , Bad Wurzach , Isny im Allgäu and Aulendorf have over 10,000 inhabitants. Six communities, including Kißlegg, have over 5,000 inhabitants. 17 municipalities have between 1,000 and 5,000 inhabitants. The remaining eight communities have less than 1,000 inhabitants. The three smallest municipalities in terms of population are Eichstegen with 506 inhabitants, Unterwaldhausen with 293 and Guggenhausen with 189 inhabitants.
The entire district of Ravensburg has a population density of 174 inhabitants per km². The largest population density within the district are the cities of Weingarten with 2050 inhabitants per km² and Ravensburg with 550, followed by the municipality of Baienfurt with 452. Four municipalities have a population density of over 200, including the city of Wangen im Allgäu . Another four, including the cities of Aulendorf , Bad Waldsee and Isny im Allgäu, have a higher population density than the district average of 174. In twelve municipalities, including the city of Leutkirch im Allgäu , the population density is lower than the district average but still higher than 100. The the remaining 16 communities, including the city of Bad Wurzach , have a population density of less than 100 inhabitants per km². The most sparsely populated communities are Hoßkirch with 47, Eichstegen with 36 and Guggenhausen with 23 inhabitants per km².
