List of municipalities in the Lake Constance district
The list of municipalities in the Lake Constance district provides an overview of the 23 smallest administrative units in the district . Five of the parishes are cities . Friedrichshafen and Überlingen are medium-sized towns , the other three, Tettnang , Markdorf and Meersburg are small towns . The community of Meckenbeuren has more inhabitants than Markdorf, but is not a town; several communities are also larger than the small town of Meersburg.
In its current form, the Lake Constance district was created in the course of the district reform carried out in 1973 by the merger of the Tettnang district with the main part of the Überlingen district .

The district can be further divided into the following agreed administrative communities (VVG) and municipal administration associations (GVB):
- GVB Eriskirch-Kressbronn am Bodensee-Langenargen with the municipalities Eriskirch , Kressbronn am Bodensee and Langenargen ;
- VVG Friedrichshafen with the city of Friedrichshafen and the municipality of Immenstaad on Lake Constance ;
- GVB Markdorf with the town of Markdorf and the communities of Bermatingen , Deggenhausertal and Oberteuringen ;
- GVB Meersburg with the city of Meersburg and the communities Daisendorf , Hagnau am Bodensee , Stetten and Uhldingen-Mühlhofen ;
- GVB Salem with the communities Salem , Frickingen and Heiligenberg ;
- VVG Tettnang with the city of Tettnang and the community of Neukirch ;
- VVG Überlingen with the city of Überlingen and the communities Owingen and Sipplingen ;
The municipality of Meckenbeuren is not a member of an administrative community or a municipal administration association.
The district has a total area of 664.78 km² . The city of Tettnang has the largest area within the district with 71.22 km². This is followed by the district town of Friedrichshafen with 69.91 km² and the municipalities of Salem with 62.7 km² and Deggenhausertal with 62.18 km². The city of Überlingen has an area larger than 50 km², two communities have an area of over 40 km², including the city of Markdorf . Two municipalities have an area of over 30 km², four municipalities are over 20 km², five municipalities are over 10 km², including the city of Meersburg and five municipalities are smaller than 10 km². The smallest areas have the communities Sipplingen with 4.28 km², Hagnau am Bodensee with 2.93 km² and Daisendorf with 2.44 km².
The major district towns of Friedrichshafen with 60,865 and Überlingen with 22,554 have the largest share of the population of the district of 216,227 inhabitants. The third largest municipality is the city of Tettnang with 19,198 inhabitants. Three other communities have over 10,000 inhabitants, including the town of Markdorf . Five communities have over 5,000 inhabitants, including the city of Meersburg . Eleven municipalities have between 1,000 and 5,000 inhabitants. Only one municipality has less than 1,000 inhabitants. The three smallest communities in terms of population are Daisendorf with 1597 inhabitants, Hagnau on Lake Constance with 1409 and Stetten with 1043 inhabitants.
The entire Lake Constance district has a population density of 325 inhabitants per km². The largest population density within the district has the city of Friedrichshafen with 871 inhabitants per km², followed by the communities Immenstaad on Lake Constance with 705 and Daisendorf with 655. Two communities have a population density of over 500, another four of over 400, including the city of Meersburg . In four municipalities the population density is over 300. In three of these four municipalities, including the cities of Überlingen and Markdorf , the population density is higher than the district average of 325. Four municipalities have a population density between 200 and 300, including the city of Tettnang , four have between 100 and 200 inhabitants per km² and in two communities the population density is below 100. The most sparsely populated municipalities are Neukirch with 102, Heiligenberg with 75 and Deggenhausertal with 70 inhabitants per km².
