history
Weildorf is one of the oldest villages in Linzgau and was mentioned for the first time in 849 in a document with which a Salomon transferred his property in “Wildorf” to the St. Gallen monastery . In 1163 Weildorf came into the possession of the Counts of Heiligenberg .
The judgments of the regional court, which was moved from "Scatenbuch" (later Schattbuch, today: Schapbuch) to Beuren in 1431, were carried out at the place of execution ("Galgen") until 1776. The "Galgenstraße" and the local coat of arms remind of this.
From a document from the year 1208 one can conclude that in addition to Weildorf, the localities Altenbeuren, Beuren, Leustetten, Stefansfeld, Bächen with a convent, the farms Lampbach, Finkenhausen, Steinberg and Schattbuch as well as farms and properties belonged to an independent parish were only allocated to the parishes of Beuren, Betenbrunn and Röhrenbach in 1839/40. In the years between 1254 and 1291 Weildorf came more and more into the hands of the Salem monastery .
Up until 1803 ( secularization ), Weildorf's economic and political history was closely linked to that of Salem Monastery. While agriculture on the nine fiefs named after animals was successfully operated by the Salemer Erbhöfe, Weildorf lost almost 75 percent of its inhabitants between 1573 and 1648 due to hunger, plague and the Thirty Years War .
In 1806, due to the formation of the Grand Duchy of Baden , the then still independent community of Weildorf was incorporated into a 'lordly administrative district' based in Salem. However, this was dissolved in 1857 and the Überlingen area took over the village.
Weildorf was incorporated into Salem on April 1, 1972.
The village has been extensively renovated since 2008. With the renovation of the historic bowling alley and the Hangenbach stream, a new village square was created. In addition, parts of the streets were renewed and a retention basin was built for flood protection in the Salem municipality between Beuren and Weildorf. Because of this work, Weildorf has become a popular overnight destination in the form of holiday apartments within the community.
