geography

Untersiggingen lies in a valley between Gehrenberg ( 754.3  m above sea level ) and Heiligenberg ( 787  m above sea level ). The Deggenhauser Aach flows through this valley . The place extends on both sides of the brook, with the older part of the village lying south of the Aach. history

Origin of the place name

Since the Christianization of the region around Lake Constance in the 6th and 7th centuries originated from the St. Gallen monastery , the first written records of the origin of the place name can be found there. The name "Siggingen" goes back to the proper name "Sicgo", an Alemannic tribal prince from the valley in which Untersiggingen is located.

10th to 13th centuries

Several parchments from the 10th to 13th centuries have been preserved that bear witness to noblemen and knights of Siggingen . The most important are Albert von Siggingen and his son Rudolf, who had their headquarters in the "Siggingertal". Their castle was near the place. It is mentioned in a document in 1288. The moat, foundations and fortifications of this castle can still be seen today. It is not known when this castle was destroyed.

The local coat of arms of Untersiggingen may also come from this time: The man with the tulip.

18th century

Untersiggingen belonged to the Überlingen Hospital until 1779, then to the county of Fürstenberg-Heiligenberg from 1779 to 1806 until the dissolution of the Holy Roman Empire of the German Nation . In 1806 the Fürstenbergers lost the county and Untersiggingen came to Baden .

20th century

A new building area for the industrial settlement was created in the Untersiggingen district. The new municipal building yard was also located in this industrial area. In the west of the village, a new building area was developed along the Deggenhauser Aach. For this purpose, the existing gaps in the building could be closed.
