history

St. Mary's Chapel

Mittelstenweiler is mentioned for the first time with Comes Manegoldus de Rordorf dedit curtem in Metimostenwilaere in 1192. Further mentions follow in 1250, 1276, 1288, 1330 and so on. Oberstenweiler and Unterstenweiler (Niderstenwiler) both mentioned for the first time in 1220.

Mittelstenweiler belonged to the Salem Imperial Abbey until 1803 .

The place Escherichiswiler was probably a predecessor settlement of the three hamlets and was named Eskirichswilaere 1159 in the possession of the Petershausen monastery , which later still had possessions here.

Mittelstenweiler was incorporated into Salem on April 1, 1972. Oberstenweiler followed in 1973.

coat of arms

The coat of arms of the formerly independent municipality of Mittelstenweiler shows two crossed golden crooks on a blue shield and the coat of arms of Bernhard von Clairvaux on a smaller black shield : a two-row, silver-red crossed bar in black.

Economy and Infrastructure

The village is dominated by agriculture and once had a stop on the Stahringen – Friedrichshafen railway line .
