RIDEF
The word RIDEF stands for the French abbreviation of Rencontre Internationale des Éducateurs Freinet (international meeting of educators according to Freinet). These have been organized since 1968 for their own advanced training by teachers of Freinet pedagogy during the summer holidays in order to jointly develop the theory and practice of this pedagogy. Kindergarten teachers, school and university teachers and adult educators from all over the world who work with Freinet pedagogy in their schools and institutions meet here. They meet to exchange ideas and critically reflect on their own practice.

A RIDEF congress is prepared by the country group in whose country the congress takes place. It is shaped by the local, educational possibilities, the ideas and concepts that have developed in the Freinet movement in the organizing country. The RIDEF wants to enable a deeper knowledge of teaching and education from an intercultural perspective, to further develop the cooperation of the Freinet educators in their schools, regionally, nationally and internationally and to win new members. The RIDEFs are a special form of future workshops . The participants combine the vision of a desirable future with that of lively learning.
At first the RIDEFs took place annually, since 1980 every two years in all even years. Until 1986 the congresses took place in Europe and North Africa. After the Freinet pedagogy spread around the world, the first RIDEF took place outside Europe and the Mediterranean in 1988. In the latter countries, some of the reform movements that still existed or were politically repressed in the former Eastern Bloc could be tied back to. In 2006 the RIDEF took place in Senegal.
