The Réseaux IP Européens Network Coordination Center (RIPE NCC) is a Regional Internet Registry (RIR) and is responsible for assigning IP address ranges and AS numbers in Europe, the Middle East and Central Asia.

The organization was founded in 1992 in Amsterdam as a non-profit organization . Superordinate organizations are RIPE , which defines the guidelines for RIPE NCC, and ICANN for all questions about IP address ranges and AS numbers.

To assign IPv4 addresses, ICANN has assigned 39/8 networks to the RIPE NCC (corresponds to a total of 39 · 2 24 = 654,311,424 IPv4 addresses). From these areas, address blocks are assigned to Local Internet Registries (LIR), which in turn use them to address their own infrastructure and / or serve end customers. As of September 14, 2012, RIPE NCC only assigned one / 22 IPv4 address block (i.e. 1024 IPv4 addresses) to existing or new LIRs. This address range was used up on November 25, 2019. Since then, RIPE NCC has only issued IPv4 addresses via a waiting list of returns.

The organization lists all existing LIRs on its website, sorted by country. A private person, company or other organization that needs IP addresses must contact an LIR or become a member of the RIPE themselves in order to obtain LIR status. RIPE NCC is financed from the contributions of the affiliated members, mostly Internet service providers , universities and large companies in the IT industry.

In addition to assigning address blocks, RIPE NCC is also responsible for the database, which contains all objects managed by RIPE NCC (IP address ranges, AS numbers, etc.). Anyone can use the Whois service available on the website to find out to whom an address range assigned by the RIPE is assigned. For each address area, information such as the owner, contact person and their postal addresses, email addresses and telephone numbers are stored.

RIPE NCC is one of five Regional Internet Registries. In October 2003 these RIRs founded the Number Resource Organization (NRO), which serves the internal coordination and communication as well as represents the interests of the RIRs towards ICANN.
