The American Registry for Internet Numbers ( ARIN ) is the regional Internet registry for the United States , Canada , Bermuda , the Bahamas, and parts of the Caribbean . The organization was founded in 1997 and has since been responsible for assigning IP addresses and AS numbers in North America (USA, Canada and some islands in the Caribbean and the North Atlantic ). Since 2002 has LACNIC taken on the task for South America. Africa was officially taken over by AfriNIC in 2005 .

The ARIN is on the Address Supporting Organization to ICANN attached.

It is based in Chantilly, Virginia , Fairfax County in the US state of Virginia .
