ŽRK Lokomotiva Zagreb ( Ženski rukometni klub Lokomotiva Zagreb ) is a Croatian women's handball club from Zagreb .

history

The ŽRK Lokomotiva Zagreb was founded on February 1st, 1949. Lokomotiva was the dominant team in the beginning of the Yugoslav Championship, eventually winning 8 championships between 1956 and 1970. In 1975 they reached the final of the national champions for the first time after celebrating their 9th title in their own country. However, the next 15 years were unsuccessful. It wasn't until 1991 that the championship was won again, which was also the last in former Yugoslavia. This year was particularly successful because you could win the EHF Cup. After the breakup of Yugoslavia, they won the first Croatian championship and the cup in 1992. Here, too, there was a lean period in which ŽRK Podravka Koprivnica dominated. Two more titles could only be won in 2004 and 2014.

It was no different in the cup either. After 1971 only one title was won in 1988 in the former Yugoslavia. Things looked slightly better in the Croatian Cup, after 1992 they won the title in 2005, 2007, 2014 and 2018.

Between 1994 and 2000 a name sponsor tried to financially close to Podravka Koprivnica and to be competitive again, but this did not succeed.

The club's greatest success after winning the EHF Cup in 1991 was achieved in 2017 by winning the EHF Challenge Cup.
