RPM International is a US company that manufactures and sells coatings , sealants, and other construction chemicals . The products are aimed at industrial customers as well as private consumers. In addition to the divisions with products for industrial and private customers, a third product segment is operated for special niche applications. The product segment for industrial applications generated around 53% of total sales in the 2018 financial year. In 2018 RPM International was the fifth largest manufacturer of paints and varnishes worldwide.

The company was founded in 1947 by Frank C. Sullivan under the name Republic Powdered Metals and initially sold a coating for aluminum roofs. After Frank Sullivan's death in 1971, the company was renamed RPM Inc. and continued by the son of the company's founder, Thomas C. Sullivan. This expanded rapidly and increased sales from $ 11 million to $ 2 billion. Since 2002, Frank C. Sullivan, the grandson of the company founder of the same name, has been the company's Chief Executive Officer.

The approximately 145 company locations in 26 countries worldwide also include three German locations in Twistringen , Traunreut and Cologne , which are operated by subsidiaries of RPM International. One of them is the tremco illbruck Group GmbH .
