RSZ Handball Academy Göppingen

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The RSZ Handball Academy Göppingen in Göppingen was a top sports center of the German Handball Federation (DHB) and the Handball Federation Wuerttemberg (HVW) and was designed by Kurt Reusch and Vasile Oprea as coach cared. The academy was founded in 2002 and the project manager was Alexander Gehrer.

In cooperation with other institutions, the aim was to prepare talented young people for a career as top handball athletes. The development of the individual player was a top priority and took precedence over the interests of the club. In this special support concept, the players were given sports medicine and educational support.

The handball academy took part in the Intersport Challenge Tour during the season and challenged men's teams from the Oberliga to the Regionalliga. After the end of the season, international handball tournaments such as the IBOT were attended. The RSZ won the tournament with the B-Juniors in 2003, 2005, 2007 and with the A-Juniors in 2004, 2005 and 2006. In 2005 the RSZ was able to win the Granollers Cup, one of the largest and most popular junior tournaments in Europe, for the first time in Spain . The best player of the tournament also came from Göppingen. In the same year, the RSZ met twice on the Lithuanian A-Junior national team, against which it achieved a 34:34 and a win with 15:11. The handball academy has meanwhile produced several national junior players and became the German beach handball champion in 2006 . In 2008, the A-youth won the Prague Handball Cup, also one of the largest and most popular junior tournaments in Europe.

The later national player and European champion Kai Häfner attended the academy.

The end of the project came with the closure in 2013 in order to transfer the resources to the newly founded youth center from Frisch Auf Göppingen .
