Vasile Oprea (born March 3, 1957 in Bucharest ) is a former Romanian handball player and now works as a handball coach, among other things .
As a youth player, Oprea took part in the first handball world championship for juniors in Sweden in 1977, but was only able to occupy eleventh place with Romania. Oprea played during his active time at Dinamo Bucharest , with whom he was Romanian champion in 1978 and 1986 and Romanian cup winner in 1979. In 1984 Oprea took third place with the Romanian national team at the Olympic Games in Los Angeles . Oprea was mainly used as a circulator and had a height of 1.89 m and a weight of 84 kg. He made a total of 54 internationals in which he scored 46 goals.
As a trainer, Oprea was among other things co-trainer at Frisch Auf Göppingen , with whom the promotion to the handball Bundesliga 2001/02 succeeded. Until December 2013 he was coach of the 1st men's team as well as the 1st women's team of TSV Zizishausen (Württembergliga and HVW-Landesliga) and coach at the RSZ Handball Academy Göppingen , an official top sports center of the handball association Württemberg (HVW) and the German Handball Federation (DHB). In December 2013 he signed a contract with Frisch Auf Göppingen as coach of the women's team until the end of the 2013/14 season .
With his wife Gina (née Malai), a former Romanian national handball player , Oprea founded the “Oprea handball school” in 2007 under the umbrella of TSG Eislingen .
His son Dragoș Oprea is also a professional handball player and was already under contract with Frisch Auf Göppingen, THW Kiel and TVB 1898 Stuttgart , among others .
In 2017/18 Vasile Oprea descended from the district league with TG Nürtingen.
