RTL 102.5 is an Italian private radio and television broadcaster based in Milan . The station is broadcast nationwide via FM . It can also be received unencrypted across Europe via satellite ( Eutelsat Hotbird ) via DVB-S .

history

RTL 102.5 started in 1975 as a local station in Bergamo under the name Radio Trasmissioni Lombarde (RTL). From 1988 the range of the program was extended to Northern Italy , in 1990 it finally received one of the 14 nationwide radio licenses.

In 2007, the radio station achieved a weekly audience rate of 16.433 million listeners in the age group between 18 and 40, making it the most popular radio station in Italy.

The group also includes RTL 102.5 Openspace and the television broadcaster RTL 102.5 TV, which launched the radiovisione formula in September 2007, which enables the moderation and video for the song to be seen on television.

In 2010, the station became the first private Italian national radio station to acquire the rights to broadcast the soccer matches of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

The network had already acquired the broadcasting rights for the 2008 European Championship games in Austria and Switzerland. It later held the broadcasting rights for the 2012 European Football Championship matches in Poland and Ukraine. The Italian games were commented on by Paolo Pacchioni and everyone else from Gialappa Band. In 2011 RTL 102.5 was the second most listened to and in 2012 the most listened to radio station in Italy.
