Raúl Gutiérrez (born October 16, 1966 in Mexico City ), also known by the nickname El Potro , is a former Mexican football player in the position of defender . He coaches the Mexican U-17 national team .
Life
society
"El Potro" Gutiérrez began his professional career in the 1989/90 season with his hometown club Atlante , with which he won the Mexican championship in the 1992/93 season . After five years at Atlante, he moved to city rivals America in 1994 , where he was under contract for a total of seven and a half years until the end of 2001. For the Torneo Clausura 2002 he moved to Club León , with whom he was relegated to the second division at the end of the 2001/02 season, while his former club América won his ninth league title at the same time.
National team
Gutiérrez made his debut in the dress of the Mexican national team on December 4, 1991 in a 3-0 win over Hungary. His last international match was on September 21, 1996 in a World Cup qualifier , which was lost to Honduras (1: 2).
The highlight of his national team career was his participation in the soccer world championship in 1994 , in which he was used in the preliminary round matches against Norway (0: 1) and Ireland (2: 1).
