Raad Hamudi

Raʿad Hamudi ( Arabic رعد حمودي, DMG Raʿad Ḥamūdī after the English translation Hamoodi or Hamoody ; * April 20, 1958 in Baghdad ) is a former Iraqi soccer player . The goalkeeper is still considered one of the most famous football players in his country to this day. In April 2009 he was elected President of the Iraqi NOK .

Life

Even at a young age, Hamudi was a regular goalkeeper at the Iraqi first division club and traditional Baghdad club asch-Schorta. In 1976, at the age of 18, he became the youngest goalkeeper in the history of the Iraqi national team , when he was in goal for the first time in the 0-0 draw in Baghdad against Turkey on February 8, 1976 . In the Gulf Cup of Nations the same year Hamudi finished in second place, 1979 he was in Baghdad and 1,984 in Muscat winner of the competition. He also reached fourth place at the 1976 Asian Cup . In the soccer military world championship hosted by the CISM , Hamudi won this tournament with the Iraqi selection both in 1977 (including a 4-2 win against the German team) and 1979 (including a 4-0 win against the Austrian team). In both finals, Iraq prevailed on penalties against the teams of Kuwait and Italy. In 1980 he became Iraqi champion.

His greatest success, however, was participating in the 1986 World Cup , when he played two of the three preliminary round matches. A year later, on February 21, he played his farewell game in the 2-0 defeat against Kuwait. In total, he had played 137 games between 1976 and 1987.

In 1989 Hamudi fled Iraq to neighboring Jordan , where he worked as a freelance trader. Only after the Iraq war did he return to Iraq in 2003, where he became president of his former club asch-Shorta. On April 4, 2009 he was elected as the new NPK president.
