Rachel Akerman
Rachel Akerman (* approx. 1522 ; † 1544 ) was an Austrian-Jewish poet . She is considered to be one of the first Jewish women to write poems in German.
Life
Rachel Akerman was probably born in Vienna in 1522 . She is said to have been the daughter of a very rich man in Vienna. From a young age she is said to have shown great talents for literature and to have been taught by the best teachers in Greek and Latin . She is said to have composed many poems for her enjoyment, including the poem entitled "Secret of the Court", in which she is said to have described the intrigues in such a way that the poem was soon banned and she and her father had to leave Vienna . On this trip to Danzig she is said to have died in Jihlava , Moravia in 1544 .
