Rachel Barney
Rachel Barney (born September 14, 1966 in Toronto ) is an American philosopher .
Life
She received her BA in Philosophy in 1989 from Trinity College, University of Toronto and a PhD from John Madison Cooper in 1996 from Princeton University's Department of Philosophy with a dissertation on A Reading of Plato ’s Cratylus . In 1992 she was visiting lecturer in the Department of Philosophy at McGill University . From 1995 to 1998 she taught as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Philosophy at the University of Ottawa . From 1997 to 1998 she was Visiting Assistant Professor in the Department of Philosophy and Department of the Classics at Harvard University . From 1998 to 2002 she was Assistant Professor in the Department of Philosophy at the University of Chicago . In 2002 she was Associate Professor in the Department of Philosophy at the University of Chicago . From 2003 to 2011 she was Associate Professor and Canada Research Chair in Classical Philosophy in the Department of Classics and Department of Philosophy at the University of Toronto. From 2011 to 2012 she was Professor and Canada Research Chair in Classical Philosophy at the Department of Classics and Department of Philosophy at the University of Toronto. Since 2013 she has been a professor in the Department of Philosophy and Department of Classics at the University of Toronto.
