Rachel Joyce (* 1962 in London ) is a British actress and writer. In 2012 she had with "The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry" ( The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry worldwide) Bestseller . This was continued in the novel "The Secret of Queenie Hennessie"

Life and professional development

Rachel Joyce is one of three daughters of Myra and Martin Joyce. She studied English at Bristol University and attended the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London and initially worked as an actress. In 1999 she gave up acting to better take care of her family. She started working as a radio play writer for the BBC .

Rachel Joyce is married to actor Paul Venables and has four children.

Awards

As an actress for the Royal Shakespeare Company , she won the “Time Out Actress of the Year Award” for the lead role in Henrik Ibsen's Nora or A Puppet's House .

In 2007 she received the Tinniswood Award for her radio play To Be a Pilgrim . She processed one of her radio plays into her first novel "The improbable pilgrimage of Harold Fry", in which she deals with her father's death from cancer without, however, telling his story. In 2012 the novel was nominated for the Booker Prize and won the "New Writer of the Year Award".
