Radial road

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Radial streets are city streets that run from a certain point, such as the city center or a monument, in mostly straight lines to the outside in a star shape.

For this type of street planning, not only aesthetic but also political aspects were often responsible, for example to mark the political center of an area. A well-known example is the city of Karlsruhe , where all main streets were directed towards the palace. The sense of such radial roads is also reflected in the saying all roads lead to Rome .

Examples of radial streets around monuments are the streets that lead radially away from the Berlin Victory Column (including the Straße des 17. Juni ) or the streets that start from the Arc de Triomphe in Paris.
