Radico-functional nomenclature
The radikofunktionelle nomenclature is a nomenclature type of chemical nomenclature . In contrast to the substitutive nomenclature , the parent systems are named here in the form of their " radicals ", which are followed by the names of the substance class in question .
This type of nomenclature is used less and less today. Examples of designations according to the radical functional nomenclature are: ethyl alcohol for ethanol , methyl chloride for chloromethane , dimethyl ketone for propanone (acetone) .
Esters are often named according to the radical functional nomenclature, that is, the name of the acid is followed by an alkyl radical derived from the alcohol component (for example ethyl acetate ). Other organic compounds such as ketones , amines , ethers and sulfides are also often given radical functional names.
