Radio 2Day is a local radio broadcaster that broadcasts in the Munich area . The name "2Day" comes from the early days of the station, when half of the program consisted of rock music and the other half of funk & soul music.

history

Peter Bertelshofer, who later founded Radio 2Day, submitted a concept for a private radio program in Munich in 1984 when he was studying human medicine at the University of Regensburg . The concept submitted was called “Radio 2Day” because two very different, actually incompatible music styles were to be played within one broadcast day. After the implementation, rock hits and hits from the fields of funk & soul were played alternately. Initially, the Radio 2Day program on the Munich local wave VHF 96.3 MHz was planned.

When it actually started broadcasting on September 29, 1985, Radio 2Day broadcast on the Munich local frequency of 92.4 MHz. This frequency was assigned to the transmitter in the course of a frequency splitting. From April 1, 1986, Radio 2Day broadcast together with Radio Charivari 95.5 Munich daily from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Despite these very late evening programming times, Radio 2Day soon became very well known and popular due to its unusual programming concept.

From April 11, 1988, Radio 2Day shared the new 89.0 MHz frequency, initially with StarSat Radio, which was founded by Jo Lüders and Peter Pelunka . Peter Pelunka later claimed the airtime of StarSat Radio for his 89 Hit FM program and shared the frequency with Radio 2Day and the then Catholic broadcaster Rundfunk Neues Europa-RNE (now Radio Horeb ) until November 30, 2000 .

After 89 Hit FM ceased broadcasting on the 89.0 MHz frequency on November 30, 2000, Radio 2Day was assigned the broadcast time for 89 Hit FM and broadcast from 5 a.m. on Mondays to 3 a.m. on Sundays. On October 15, 2004, Radio New Europe switched to the Munich local frequency of 92.4 MHz and was renamed Radio Horeb at the same time . Since then, Radio 2Day has been broadcasting all day on the local frequency of 89.0 MHz.

In 2002 there was a format change: the program was geared towards the neglected target group aged 25 and over, with the focus on "Classics" from the 70s and 80s, funk, soul and rock classics.

Radio 2Day also operates the Be4 Classic Rock station , which is broadcast via DAB in and around Munich.
