Radio Goethe

Radio Goethe is a radio broadcast produced by Arndt Peltner , which is now broadcast by over 40 radio stations, primarily in the USA and Canada , but also in Eastern Europe and Namibia . It almost exclusively broadcasts music by bands from Germany, Austria and Switzerland. German-language music accounts for the largest share, but English-language German bands are also presented to the listeners.

Radio Goethe has been on the air since 1996. Initially, it was broadcast every Thursday evening by the University of San Francisco's college broadcaster, KUSF, which is particularly popular with young California audiences and reaches several hundred thousand listeners. Due to its great success, various other college broadcasters in the USA and Canada initially included the program in their programs, and other radio stations followed later. Radio Goethe was also included in the programs of various Eastern European radio stations. It can now also be heard on individual stations in German-speaking countries.

The German music scene in particular is presented. Different musical genres are presented. Especially in the initial phase of the station, mainly bands such as Rammstein , Die Krupps and Wolfsheim were presented. Radio Goethe has contributed to the increase in awareness of the New German Hardship in the USA, where not only the globally successful band Rammstein, but also musicians such as Joachim Witt and Megaherz , are increasingly becoming commercially successful. Topics from German music history are also dealt with, for example a 40-minute special program on the history of the song Die Moorsoldaten was produced. In addition, an English-language magazine is broadcast weekly on topics from German politics and culture.

Radio Goethe is supported by the German Consulate General and the Goethe Institute . In 2004, Arndt Peltner was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit on Ribbon for outstanding cultural work abroad.
