Megaherz is a rock band founded in Munich in 1993 , which alongside Oomph! and Rammstein is one of the earliest representatives of the New German Hardship .

Band history

The Megaherz project was founded by Alexander "Alexx" Wesselsky (vocals), Marc Bredtmann (guitar), Josef Kalleder (electric bass), Tobias Trinkl (drums) and Christian Scharinger (keyboard). In this formation they released the first CD Herzwerk , which drew the attention of the record label Golden Core to the band and was re- released as a re-release in 2002, including the 94 demo tape Sexodus .

Bands like Rammstein , Clawfinger , Alice in Chains , Soundgarden , Nirvana , Nine Inch Nails , Pantera and Rage Against the Machine are named as influences.

After singer Alexx left Megaherz in 2003 with the DJ and ex-member of Megaherz, Noel Pix , to start the joint project Eisbrecher , a replacement was found in Mathias "Jablonski" Elsholz (Ex- Twelve After Elf ), with whom the Band released the album 5 . Megaherz's last official concert with Alexx took place in Fürth , as the opening act for In Extremo . In 2005 Elsholz and drummer Jürgen Zink ( Face (cover rock) ) left the band and left Christian "X-ti" Bystron (guitar), Wenz Weninger (electric bass) and Frank Gegerle (drums) behind, who after leaving Zinks became a member of Megaherz again. With Roland Vencelj, a new guitarist joined the band, who was previously active in the NDH band Toxsin .

On April 14, 2007, Megaherz announced on their website that they had found a new singer and were already working on their sixth studio album. On August 18, the band revealed that the new members Alexander "Lex" Wohnhaas (soul fire, cover-x) and Juergen "Bam Bam" Wiehler ( Bonfire ) are, with whom and on 25 July 2008, the sixth album hypocrites on the market came. The release was preceded by a single entitled Mann von Welt .

The line-up remained unchanged for about four years, until on April 11, 2011 the departure of the 2nd guitarist Roland Vencelj was announced, whose place was taken by Christoph Klinke (From Constant Visions). On February 8, 2018, the band announced that drummer Jürgen Wiehler had left the band, a reason was not given.

From February to July 2018 the drummer was Tobias Derer, the previous drummer of the Mannheim metal band Cypecore , which he left in December 2017.

Band name

The US-American band Megadeth and the Wildecker Herzbuben , from which the name "Megaherz" arose, serve as inspiration ; freely based on the motto “hard but warm” and a quote from Rainer Maria Rilke : “The work of the face is done - now do the work of the heart ”.

Texts

In contrast to genre colleagues like Rammstein , Megaherz use more direct texts and statements that often deal with topics such as unfulfilled or burnt-out love ( devil , bitch , showdown ), loss ( March 5th ), everyday problems ( strike back , hypocrite ) or social grievances ( man of the world ) to treat.

It is also noticeable that the first albums feature pieces that are based on stories from the fairy tale area ( Finsternis , Rapunzel , Windkind , IM Rumpelstiltskin , Come over (Schattenland) ). This recurring motif disappeared with the sixth album, where Alexander Wohnhaas did not continue the tradition created by Wesselsky in contrast to his predecessor, Mathias Elsholz.

Wesselsky mostly uses the rhyme scheme [abcb], often too [abab]where he tended to change the scheme within the same song. After Wesselsky's departure, Mathias Elsholz was responsible for the conception of the text, whereby he does not use a rhyme scheme most often, but uses different ones equally often. When Alexander Wohnhaas took on the role of singer and lyricist, he used predominantly[aabb] as a rhyme scheme.
