Radio Islam (South Africa)
Radio Islam is a religious broadcaster in South Africa based in the Johannesburg metropolitan area . He sees the Koran and the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad as guiding principles for his work .
Goals and story
Radio Islam is operated by the conservative Islamic organization Jamiatul Ulama .
Radio Islam says it wants to spread the religious message of Islam ( to all via the airwaves ). Furthermore, the station wants to promote humanity and be the authentic voice of the Islamic message. The station is aimed primarily at the Muslim community in the major cities of South Africa.
Radio Islam was registered as a company in November 1993. In April 1997, the station received a broadcast license and broadcast its first program on April 10, 1997.

In addition to messages, religious content and prayers are broadcast. According to their own information, 90 percent of the program is in English and two percent each in Arabic , Urdu , Afrikaans , isiZulu and isiXhosa .

The station has a potential of around 200,000 listeners.

criticism
Radio Islam is of the opinion that female voices should not be heard in the media and therefore does not allow women to speak.
Brannon Ingram from Northwestern University , USA , writes in his study of the station that, in the context of the constitutional confusion in “post- apartheid ” South Africa, an important example of the debate on gender issues and religious freedom plays in religious media.
