Radio navigation system MCD

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Radio Navigation System MCD is a car navigation system that is installed by VW , Ford and Seat , among others . It is based on the technology that is also used in the Blaupunkt devices of the TravelPilot and TravelPilot DX series . The Radio Navigation System MCD is installed like a car radio, so the display is in the same unit as the radio receiver and the CD-ROM drive.

Technical

The Radio Navigation System MCD is a car navigation system with a DOT matrix monochrome display and an integrated radio receiver. The device is higher than normal car radios (2 DIN) and therefore only intended for factory installation. In contrast to its bigger brother Radio Navigation System MFD , the CD-ROM drive is able to read music CDs.

There are several generations of the devices. It depends on the generation which map CDs the device can process.

The Radio Navigation System MCD has the ability to process TMC signals. In other words, the device automatically processes incoming traffic jam reports via radio internally in order to calculate a new route.

A car phone (cell phone), a CD changer and a so-called digital sound processor DSP can also be connected to the MCD, but these are not available retrospectively, but were only installed when the new car was ordered.

The device could be programmed for various features such as E.g .: 4 or 8 loudspeakers in the vehicle (fader available or not), and on the different interior spaces (size, leather / fabric equipment), as it is installed in several models.

The map CDs are produced by Tele Atlas and distributed by Tele Atlas as well as Blaupunkt .

The CD-ROMs usually contain the maps of a country. In some cases, however, two or more states are combined on one CD. Special Europe CDs are available for cross-border navigation that contain motorways and important federal highways from all digitized countries.

MCD devices of the first generation require the "non-DX" version for this, devices of the newer generations require the "DX" version.
