Radschläfe

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Radschläfe in Siegen is part of the Rosterberg and thus part of the eight main mountains of Siegen .

nature

The mountain is divided into the first and second wheel temple and is covered with coniferous forests. Until the 1950s, the area was a popular recreational area for the Siegen population. The Ählskopf (also Ählnkopf) is around 350 meters high in the area of the first Radschläfe . In the upper area there used to be a spacious cave entrance that has been closed for decades.

A slightly uphill path leads through dense forest to the second wheel temple. Like the access road, it is still undeveloped. It is characterized by a large, almost flat square. From here there is a direct access path to the Eisernhardt, 482 meters above sea level .

Development

The Rosterberg was built on from the mid to late 1950s . A housing estate was built in Rosterstrasse above the Schäfer restaurant / hotel. The Radschläfe along with the woods and hedges were eventually also built on. In addition to the large Awo system, there was a residential area on the opposite side, mostly with single-family houses. The Jung-Stilling Hospital was built in the former forest and meadow area.
