Rafael Aponte-Ledée

Rafael Aponte-Ledée (born October 15, 1938 in Guayama ) is a Puerto Rican composer.

Aponte-Ledée studied at the Conservatorio de Música in Madrid until 1965 and then perfected his training at the Di Tella Institute of the Centro Latinoamericano de Altos Estudios Musicales (CLAEM) in Buenos Aires under Alberto Ginastera and Gerardo Gandini until 1966 . In 1968, alongside Francis Schwartz, he was one of the founders of the Fluxus group , which was dedicated to promoting avant-garde music in Puerto Rico. In 1978 he founded the Puerto Rican Biennial for New Music. From 1981 he was director of the Latin American Foundation for Contemporary Music. Until his retirement he was professor of composition at the Conservatorio de Música de Puerto Rico .
