Gerardo Gandini
Gerardo Gandini (born October 16, 1936 in Buenos Aires ; † March 22, 2013 there ) was an Argentine composer .
Life
Gerardo Gandini studied in Buenos Aires with Pía Sebastiani , Roberto Caamaño and Alberto Ginastera and in Rome with Goffredo Petrassi . He taught in Buenos Aires at the Catholic University, the Centro Latinoamericano de Altos Estudios Musicales (CLAEM) and at the Conservatory. In addition to other awards, Gerardo Gandini received the prestigious international composer prize Tomás Luis de Victoria in 2008 .
In addition to operas , songs and choirs based on texts by Salvatore Quasimodo , Gandini composed instrumental music for various line-ups. He was the pianist in Astor Piazzolla's sexteto and his recording of his own piano improvisations on classic Argentine tangos , which he called postangos , won the Grammy for best tango CD of the year in 2004.
In addition, he composed the music for various documentaries and cinema films, such as the drama The Last Curtain for director Fernando E. Solanas in 1998 .
