Rafael Arozarena

Rafael Arozarena Doblado (born April 4, 1923 in Santa Cruz de Tenerife , † September 30, 2009 ) was a Spanish writer . The beginnings of the poet and prose writer are connected with authors such as Víctor Galtier or Víctor Zurita ; along with other writers, he was part of the Fetasa group . In 1988 he won the Canary Islands Literature Prize together with Isaac de Vega .

Rafael Arozarena's work includes both poetry and prose. Within the latter, his most famous work, Mararía , is of great importance in his homeland, where it is considered a classic work of Canarian literature. It was filmed in 1998 by the director Antonio José Betancor with the actress Goya Toledo from Lanzarote in the role of Mararía and with the music of the songwriter Pedro Guerra from Tenerife.

Rafael Arozarena also worked extensively in the Canary Islands press .
