Rafael Catalá

Rafael Catalá Salva (* 1960 in Valencia ) is a Spanish guitarist and composer.

Life

Catalá completed his music / guitar studies with a Master of Arts degree in Barcelona, ​​Paris and Graz. As a composer he attended courses with Cristóbal Halffter , Luis de Pablo and Helmut Lachenmann .

Catalá gives guitar courses at the municipal music and art school Deutschlandsberg (Austria). He led courses and seminars at music colleges, a. a. in Munich, Vienna and Bremen. Catalá lives in Austria.

Musical career

Catalá also worked in a duo with singers such as the mezzo-soprano Teresa Berganza (Japan tour 2004) or the baritone Carlos Álvarez .

His concerts in many countries in Europe, Japan, the Middle East, Mexico and the USA and his award-winning CD recordings for labels such as Sony Classical made him a recognized musician. His works and arrangements are published by Doblinger (Vienna), VNM (Berlin) and Clivis (Barcelona).

In 2011 he founded his own label ElDuende Productions in Austria .

Editing

As editor, he has made a significant contribution to renewing and expanding the guitar repertoire. He is editor of the guitar music series Música Ibérica , which is dedicated to the Spanish guitar music of the 19th century and of which five volumes have been published so far. In coordination with Teresa Berganza , he also published his arrangements and critical studies on the 15 Canciones españolas populares antiguas , collected by Federico García Lorca .
