Roger Blàvia

Roger Blàvia (born February 26, 1963 in Barcelona , † November 3, 2017 in Barcelona) was a Spanish percussionist and drummer.

Live and act

Blàvia learned his instruments as an autodidact ; Since 1978 he has worked with various instrumental groups in his hometown. He accompanied flamenco guitarists and singer-songwriters such as La Fura dels Baus , Moncho and Diego Cortés . Between 1986 and 1993 he lived in Switzerland, where he worked as a musician. Back in Barcelona he played in several flamenco jazz projects, since 2003 mainly in the trio of Carles Benavent (with Jordi Bonell), but also with the Kitflus Kuartet and most recently with his own project Rhythm Complicity (2012). He was also a member of Joan Manuel Serrat's live band . Furthermore, Blàvia was, among others, the studio musician of Miguel Poveda , Pedro Javier González , Manolo García , Santiago Auserón , Paul Carrack , Marcelo Mercadante , Rafael Catalá , Duquende , Chicueloor Maria del Mar Bonet . He also worked with the composer and arranger Joan Albert Amargós on his recordings with Estrella Morente , Alfredo Kraus , Miguel Poveda and Joan Manuel Serrat. In addition, Blàvia can be heard in productions with Freddie Hubbard and Raul de Souza .

The Associació de Músics de Jazz i Musica Moderna de Catalunya named him in 2001 and 2002 as “Best Percussionist of the Year”. Roger Blàvia died in November 2017 in the course of a liver transplant in his native city of Barcelona .
