Duquende

Duquende , actually Juan Rafael Cortés Santiago (* 1965 in Sabadell , Spain ) is a Spanish Flamenco - singer . For a long time he was seen as one of the successors to Camarón de la Isla .

Life

At the age of nine he was invited by Camarón to accompany him on the guitar . In his artistic career, Duquende followed in the footsteps of a successor, but did not deny his admiration for camarón or for traditional singing.

For twenty years he performed on small stages and in flamenco clubs (so-called peñas ). There he developed his voice and singing techniques. In 1997 he was approached by Paco de Lucía to replace his brother Pepe in the Septeto Paco de Lucía ( Paco de Lucía septet ). This gave Duquende the opportunity to develop further through world tours. Three years later he released the album Samaruco (2000).

In 1995 he was the first flamenco singer to be invited to perform at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris . He worked with artists such as B. Tomatito , Manzanita , Juan Carmona , Juan Manuel Cañizares , Juan Habichuela , Moraíto Chico and Vicente Amigo .
