Rafael Chávez Rodríguez (born August 19, 1952 ), also known by the nickname Chepe , is a former Mexican soccer player who mainly played in attacking midfield .

Life

"Chepe" Chavez began his professional career at Club León , where he was under contract between 1969 and 1975. During this period, he won the Mexican Cup and the Supercup twice with the Esmeraldas , while in the championship in 1973 and 1975 it was only enough for second place. Chavez was considered to be one of the best players in the club history of León FC and was included in the “best team in club history” by the Mexican sports magazine Récord .

In 1975 or 1976, the sources are contradicting, he moved to the Club Universidad de Guadalajara , with which he was runner-up again in 1975/76 and definitely in 1976/77.

Between 1974 and 1977 Chavez played a total of 13 appearances for the Mexican national team , in which he scored three goals; He scored one goal each on January 6, 1976 against Hungary (4: 1), on February 1, 1977 against Yugoslavia (5: 1) and on October 15, 1977 against Surinam (8: 1).
