Rafael García Torres

José Rafael García Torres (born August 14, 1974 in Mexico City ) is a retired Mexican football player .

From 1992 Rafael García played in the Primera División de México since he made his debut for the capital club UNAM Pumas in November of that year . He was used more and more frequently in the following years and in the third year he was part of the regular formation. The midfielder stayed with the Pumas until 1998, when he moved to the top club Deportivo Toluca . There, too, he was immediately seeded and in his first few years he won the Mexican championship three times in a row in the summer half-year and made it to the final of the CONCACAF Champions Cup in 1998 . In 2003, Toluca was at the top of the North American club and won the Cup after qualifying for the competition by winning the Apertura in 2002.

García stayed with Toluca until 2004, when he went back to his hometown to play CD Cruz Azul . After a mixed season he has been playing in Guadalajara for Atlas Guadalajara since 2005 . In 2008 he ended his career with CD Veracruz . In 16 years in the first division, the attacking midfielder scored 48 goals in more than 400 games.

From 1996 Rafael García was also in action for the Mexican national soccer team and played a total of 52 games for them until 2006. Before that, he had already been represented in his country's U17 and U20 selection at the Junior World Championships in 1991 and 1993, respectively. In 1999 he was in the national team when he won the Confederations Cup and he was also used , albeit briefly, in the 2002 World Cup . In qualifying for the 2006 World Cup in Germany, he was on the field five times and the tournament was his second World Cup in Mexico , but was not used.

García is the son-in-law of coach Ricardo La Volpe .
