Raiderz (officially written RaiderZ) was a massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) from the Korean developer MAIET Entertainment. It was released on November 20, 2012 in South Korea via Neowiz Games, in North America via Perfect World Entertainment and in Europe via Gameforge . The game used a free-to-play model and accordingly did not require a monthly user fee, as the services were financed through real-money microtransactions via the virtual in-game shop.

development

In January 2006, MAIET Entertainment started work on a new game under the code name "Project H". Project H was first mentioned on July 31, 2009 when MAIET Entertainment introduced the Korean publisher Neowiz Games as a partner for an upcoming MMORPG project. The official title "RaiderZ" was unveiled on May 3, 2010 by Neowiz Games. It is composed of the English word "Raiders" for looters and the final, capitalized Z, which should show that the game is developed by the same makers as GunZ: The Duel.

A first closed beta test was carried out in August 2010, followed by a second and third in January / February 2011 and February 2012. On July 5, 2012, the South Korean publisher Neowiz Games started the open beta test.

In early 2011, MAIET Entertainment announced its collaboration with Perfect World Entertainment and Frogster Interactive Pictures (Gameforge) to bring RaiderZ to the North American and European markets. A closed beta test is planned for both areas - in North America this starts on August 8, 2012 and ends on August 29, 2012, while the European beta starts one day later (August 9).

At the end of July 2013, the operator of the European versions of Gameforge announced that the game would cease operating on August 30, 2013. "Unfortunately, the success of RaiderZ did not meet our expectations", announced the operator.

In July 2015, Perfect World announced that they would be hiring Raiderz on August 7, 2015 after they tried to contact the developer MAIET Entertainment due to server problems and discovered that the developer studio was no longer able to work because all employees had apparently quit .

The RaiderZ servers were shut down and further developments of the game were completely stopped. RaiderZ is currently only playable on (legally controversial) private servers that are not supported by the former developers.

history

RaiderZ is set in the once prosperous and powerful kingdom of Rendel, now plagued by marauding monsters.

Gameplay

RaiderZ offers numerous classic MMORPG elements such as guilds, quests, dungeons, crafts and player-versus-player (PvP) battles. The game uses an unconventional aiming system in which players have to actively participate in combat and aim with their crosshairs - similar to TERA . In addition, players can knock off special body parts from boss opponents and use them against them. Another difference to other MMORPGs is the unique character development. There are no set classes and once players reach level 10 they can choose from a large number of skills to develop their characters the way they want.

The European publisher Gameforge emphasizes that RaiderZ is not a “casual game”, but instead will challenge even the most experienced players. An example of this is the fact that players can fight gigantic boss opponents alone, although it is advisable to face them in groups.

No fixed classes

When creating characters, players can choose from five different basic fighting styles: Defender, Berserker, Cleric, Assassin and Wizard. But after your character reaches level 10, you can learn any skill of any style and design your character the way you want. For example, players can create a character with plate armor who can perform magic attacks, or a healer who wields a large sword. There are rumors of other fighting styles, but none of them have been officially confirmed.

Action-packed fights

RaiderZ combines game elements of MMORPGs with those of an action game and allows players to actively participate in combat. Instead of resorting to the typical point and click controls used in most MMORPGs, RaiderZ players have to swing their weapons, dodge enemy attacks and prance around their opponents to get into a better position. Special skills that can be placed in a skill bar, of course, still play a major role in RaiderZ.

Boss fights

The fight against strong and big boss opponents is one of the main features of RaiderZ. Regardless of whether in instanced dungeons or in the open game world, players will always come across special opponents who demand skill and teamwork. Some of these monsters will be several hundred meters high so that the player can just see over the big toe. During the fighting, the monsters will lose certain body parts (e.g. horns or claws) that can be used by the player as a shield or weapon or that offer special additional effects for a short time. The boss opponents in RaiderZ also use special abilities themselves at irregular intervals and devour or grab players, for example.

Craft

New equipment and weapons can only be obtained through the crafting system. Players will have to fight monsters or trade with players to find the items needed to create a new item. Most of these items will be tied to the character who made them, but that doesn't apply to the individual parts or the recipes.

PvP

Not much information is currently available on the RaiderZ PvP system. In an interview with TheGamerHub, European producer Rüdiger Mörsch mentioned classic duels, large, open PvP areas and PvP quests, in which one team has to protect an important non-player character (NPC) while the other team has to kill them . He also pointed out other unique elements that are still in development.

Music instruments

Players can learn some musical instruments such as guitars and play music with other players. These instruments will be linked to a quest line at the end of which you can buy the instrument and then play different notes.
