Raiffeisen Skywalk
The Raiffeisen Skywalk is a pedestrian suspension bridge on the Mostelberg above Sattel SZ in the Swiss canton of Schwyz . It has a wingspan of 374 meters. This made it the longest pedestrian bridge in Europe when it opened in 2010.
description
The construction hangs on four 5 cm thick ropes with a load capacity of 250 tons each. The bridge spans the approximately 50 meters deep Lauitobel and leads from Mostelberg to the Mäderenwald forest opposite. It is open all year round during the operating hours of the Sattel-Mostelberg gondola lift. The bridge is 180 cm wide at both ends, and in between it narrows to 90 cm. It can only be used in one direction with wheelchairs, strollers and bicycles. A well-developed hiking trail leads from the Mäderenwald to Herrenboden and back to Mostelberg.
history
Sattel-Hochstuckli AG planned the construction of one of the world's longest pedestrian bridges for better utilization of the recreation area. Sponsors, including the eponymous banking group Raiffeisen , contributed financially to the costs of 1.5 million francs.
In April 2010, rope artist Freddy Nock balanced on the first rope over the Lauitobel. The nine-meter-high columns were erected in May and the bridge elements were placed using a crane in June. The Raiffeisen Skywalk was opened on July 10th .
