Rail 4U was founded in 2001 as an owner-managed sole proprietorship by the locomotive driver Barbara-Birgit Pirch.

Companies

According to media reports, Rail 4U is the smallest railway company in Germany. In terms of railway law , Rail 4U is not a railway company , but a keeper of railway vehicles. They are also allowed to take part in railway operations independently (Section 6 (1) No. 2 AEG ).

Traction vehicles

Rail 4U uses two E 94 series electric locomotives that are over 55 and 65 years old , making it one of the last commercial operators of this series.

194 158 , which was delivered shortly before the end of the war in January 1945 , was carried out between 1998 and 2001 by the Arbeitsgemeinschaft Historische Eisenbahnfahrzeuge e. V. and has been used by Rail 4U ever since. In the first half of 2009 she worked several times for the company Stock Transport between Mainz and Straubing. The locomotive was overhauled in 2012, and after the general inspection , the 194 158 is back in service.

In the old DB color scheme ocean blue-beige, the DB replica locomotive 194 580 from 1955 is the number of the only locomotive of this series that was provided with this paint during the Bundesbahn times (scrapped in 1988) in the company's inventory as 194 178-0 . The locomotive has been out of service since June 2013 due to an accident. After the owner reached an agreement with the insurance company in summer 2018, the locomotive is now to be repaired in Eisenach .

Due to the efficiency of the locomotives, they are mainly used in heavy freight train service. Rail 4U acts as a contractor for railway companies.
