Raimund Schulz

Raimund Schulz (born January 26, 1962 in Hildesheim ) is a German ancient historian .

Life

After the first state examination at the University of Göttingen in 1988, Schulz was a research assistant at the Technical University of Berlin , where he received his doctorate in 1991 with a thesis on Roman international law. From 1993 to 1999 he was a research assistant at the TU Berlin and completed his habilitation there in 1996 with a thesis on Roman provincial rule in the republic. In 2001 he passed the 2nd state examination and from 2004 worked as a teacher at the Gymnasium Himmelsthür . At the same time, Schulz was a lecturer at the universities of Hanover (2001 to 2003) and Hildesheim (2004/2005) and, from 2003, an adjunct professor at the TU Berlin. In 2008 he accepted a professorship for Ancient History at Bielefeld University . In 2017 Schulz received for his book “Adventure from afar. The great voyages of discovery and the knowledge of the world of antiquity ”the Geography and History Research Prize of the Frithjof Voss Foundation ; In addition, the work received greater attention in specialist circles.

Schulz's work focuses on seafaring, war, rule and international law in antiquity.
