Raimund von Besmedin

Raimund von Besmedin or Raimund von Gibelet ( French Reymont Beissemedin ; † after 1253) was Lord of Besmedin in the county of Tripoli and Seneschal of the Kingdom of Jerusalem .

He was the eldest son of Hugo von Gibelet , Lord von Besmedin, and his wife Agnes von Ham. After the death of his father, he followed him as Lord of Besmedin.

When Emperor Friedrich II was on his crusade in 1228/29 in the Holy Land , he appointed Raimund Seneschal of Jerusalem. He held this office until 1239 or 1240.

Raimund was married twice. In her first marriage Margarethe von Scandalion, sister of Peter , married Lord of Scandalion. He had three children with her:

  • Johann (documented in 1243), ∞ Poitevine, daughter of the Marshal of Tripoli;
  • Eschiva, ∞ Reymont Visconte;
  • Agnes.

In his second marriage he married Alix von Soudin, with whom he had five children:

  • Hugo († young);
  • Heinrich († 1310), Lord of Besmedin, ∞ Margarethe von Morf, daughter of Baldwin von Morf, Lord of Cueillies;
  • Bertram († young);
  • Susanne († young);
  • Maria, ∞ Guido of Montolif.
