Heinrich von Besmedin

Heinrich von Besmedin or Heinrich von Gibelet ( French Henri or Henry ; † September 9, 1310 in Nicosia ) was lord of Besmedin in the county of Tripoli .

He was the son of Raimund von Gibelet , Lord von Besmedin, and his second marriage to Alix von Soudin. When his father died, he followed him as Lord of Besmedin.

He married Margarethe von Morf, daughter of Baldwin von Morf, Lord of Cueillies. He had two children with her:

  • Johann († around 1315), ∞ Margarethe von Le Plessis, daughter of Jean d'Amiens, called du Plessis, and Maria of Tripoli;
  • Maria.

After the fall of Tripoli to the Mamluks in 1289, Heinrich fled to Cyprus. There he was murdered in Nicosia in 1310 and buried in the local monastery of St. Francis.
