Karlheinz Poredda

Karlheinz Poredda (born January 12, 1920 in Lyck , Masuria ; † March 18, 2012 ) was mayor of the Hipstedt community in the Rotenburg (Wümme) district . He achieved national fame because, at 91 years and 50 years of service, he was the longest-serving and oldest incumbent mayor in Germany.

Poredda comes from Neumalken near Lyck in Masuria. He took part in World War II as a soldier and was taken prisoner. In 1948 he came to Hipstedt after being a prisoner of war and has been involved in local politics ever since .

In 1961 he was elected mayor. At first Poredda was a member of the Federation of Expellees and Disenfranchised , but in the 1970s he co-founded the Free Citizens' Voting Association (WFB), for which he also sat in the district parliament and in the council of the Geestequelle municipality .

At the end of October 2011 he withdrew from public life. On February 6, 2013 he was posthumously appointed honorary mayor of the Hipstedt community.

Poredda was married and had a son.
