Sandstone cliffs and rocks in the Rainbow Valley

The Rainbow Valley is a valley in Australia and is located about 76 kilometers south of Alice Springs . The valley is located in the middle of the outback and can only be reached from the Stuart Highway via unpaved roads (all-wheel drive necessary). It is known for its colored rock formations. The weathering of the iron-rich sandstone resulted in ledges from white to dark red. Especially at sunrise and sunset, these rock bands appear in many shades of color, which gave the valley the name "Rainbow Valley " . To the north of the rocks is a small, periodically water-bearing lake, which provides additional contrasts. Because of this natural beauty, the Rainbow Valley is a 3.6 km time 2.2 km wide Conservation Reserve (conservation area) under management of the Parks and Wildlife Service of the Northern Territory .

In the Rainbow Valley there is also a sacred place for Aborigines called "Ewerre". The importance of this area has not been handed down, but the original owners want the rocks and stones not to be moved there.
