Rainer Heller (born October 17, 1961 in Paderborn ) is a German politician ( SPD ). He has been the mayor of Detmold since 2004 .

After completing his civil service and graduating from the University of Paderborn with a degree in business administration , Heller passed his second state examination for higher postal service in 1991. As a business graduate, he worked at Deutsche Telekom since 1989 .

Rainer Heller had worked as a treasurer for a long time until he was elected mayor of the city of Detmold in the North Rhine-Westphalian municipal elections in 2004. He prevailed in the second ballot with 61.1% of the vote against the CDU candidate Manfred Luckey. In the local elections in 2009 he achieved 68.15% and thus prevailed against Stephan Grigat (CDU). In the 2014 municipal elections , Heller voluntarily stood for re-election early and achieved an absolute majority with 56.08% of the valid votes in the first ballot.

Heller is married and has three children.
