Rainer Koll

Rainer Koll (* 1960 ) is a German gymnast and orthopedist .

Career as a gymnast

Koll practiced artistic gymnastics as a competitive sport. Sporting successes were:

  • 1975–1977 Three-time German team champion with Tus04 Bayer Leverkusen
  • 1977 German junior champion in the twelve fight
  • 1977 and 1978 German junior champion on the horizontal bar
  • 1978 European Junior Championship bronze medal on the horizontal bar
  • 1980 member of the Olympic team (Olympic Games in Moscow canceled)
  • 1981 World Cup participation in Moscow

Koll studied human medicine in Cologne and passed the state examination in 1986. In 1989 he received his doctorate from the University of Freiburg with a thesis on the therapy of the cervical spine syndrome with special consideration of X-ray inflammation radiation .

He made further training to become a specialist in orthopedics. 1986/87 he worked in surgery at St. Matinus Hospital Olpe. In 1987/88 he worked in orthopedic surgery, Wiliam Harvey Hospital, Ahsford, England. In 1988/89 he moved to the Orthopedic Clinic Bad Mergendheim and from 1989 to 1992 he worked at the St. Josef Hospital in Engelskirchen. In February 1992 he became a specialist in orthopedics and in 1993 founded the Center for Sports Traumatology and Orthopedic Operations in Bergisch Gladbach, where he still works today (12/2018). Since 1989, Koll has been the orthopedic supervisor at the Rhineland Olympic Training Center , from 1988 to 2005 he was an association doctor of the German Fencing Federation, and since 2005 he has been an association doctor for the men's national hockey team.

Koll has advanced training or additional qualifications for sports medicine, chiropractic therapy and physical therapy.
