Rainer Seifert (born December 10, 1947 in Wiesbaden ) is a former German hockey player and Olympic champion.

Rainer Seifert has played at Rüsselsheim RK since school days . The technically strong half-forward was German field hockey champion in 1968, 1971, 1975, 1977 and 1978, and in 1973, 1976 and 1979 he won the indoor hockey title. So he was in all Rüsselsheim championship successes.

In 1969 he made his debut in the German national hockey team . Seifert played two games at the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich , and after the final victory of his teammates, he was also awarded Olympic gold. In addition, he received the silver bay leaf on September 11, 1972.

In the years that followed, Seifert, who was only 1.70 meters tall, was present at many international events. He was part of the squad that won bronze at the 1973 World Cup , followed by the European Indoor Championship in 1974. At the 1975 World Cup , the German team won bronze again. In 1976 the team won again at the European Indoor Championships. The 1976 Olympic Games were rather disappointing , with the German team only finishing fifth. After finishing fourth at the 1978 World Cup , the team won the title at the European Championships in Hanover in the same year. After winning the third European indoor championship title in 1980, the 1980 Olympic boycott was a major setback in the German hockey association's track record. After 122 international matches, Rainer Seifert said goodbye to the German national team in November 1980.
